Builtin Guarantee Accreditation

Builtin’s Residential Completion Guarantee provides peace of mind to homeowners (and their mortgage lenders) if their builder is unable to complete the contract.

It covers up to 10% of the contract value, to a maximum of $100,000.

It means their deposit is protected and a new contractor can be sourced (with Builtin’s help if needed) to complete the work. If additional costs arise as a consequence these are also covered up to the policy limit.

Only accredited builders can provide the guarantee.

The policy is a loss of deposit and non-completion guarantee only, so there is no post-completion defects cover included. This means it can easily be bolted on to existing defects-only policies. We expect to have a 10 year defects guarantee available from 2026.

The guarantee is backed by PeakRe, a global reinsurer rated A-(Excellent) by A.M. Best with over $3Bn in premium worldwide. They are represented in New Zealand by Trade Guaranty + Surety Limited, a well established NZ-based bond provider for over 15 years.

Established in 2002, Builtin is a Registered Financial Advice Provider (FSP28581), regulated by the Financial Markets Authority and a member of the IFSO Independent Disputes Resolution Service.
